Minister for Foreign Affairs to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina
SWEDEN, July 9 - Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard will travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 10–11 July to attend a memorial ceremony marking the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica. During the visit, Ms Malmer Stenergard will also meet with Bosnian representatives.
“The Srebrenica genocide claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people, and still today, 30 years later, the identification and burial of victims continues. The memorial ceremony is intended to honour victims and relatives and remind us of the importance of peace and reconciliation. Sweden continues to be actively involved in work for peace, development and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards EU membership,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.
Ms Malmer Stenergard will attend the memorial service that is being held on the international anniversary of the genocide on 11 July in Potočari, near Srebrenica. During her visit, Ms Malmer Stenergard will also visit Sarajevo, meet with Bosnian representatives and discuss the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the country’s path towards EU membership.
